Micro-Comparative Approach in Studies on Belief Systems in Mesoamerica

    2025-2028 - project promotion specialist.

The project's research spans an area stretching from Central Mexico through parts of Central America, including Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, and Honduras, where great civilizations flourished in the pre-Columbian era. Its distinctive feature is cultural continuity, which means that today's descendants of ancient cultures, indigenous peoples, despite the impact of conquest, colonization, Christianization, and, more recently, globalization, have retained a significant portion of the beliefs and customs characteristic of pre-Columbian times. This allows for the filling of gaps in archaeological and historical knowledge regarding the ancient beliefs and customs of this region. The ethnological research conducted as part of the project aims to achieve this. Its implementation is crucial given the accelerating disappearance of traditional knowledge, languages, and beliefs.
